{"id":4032,"date":"2026-04-10T14:00:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T22:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/klamathid.org\/home\/?p=4032"},"modified":"2026-04-10T14:44:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T22:44:20","slug":"2026-klamath-project-water-outlook-drought-response-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klamathid.org\/home\/2026\/04\/10\/2026-klamath-project-water-outlook-drought-response-program\/","title":{"rendered":"2026 Klamath Project Water Outlook &#038; Drought Response Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"model-response-message-contentr_118374974a7c2580\" class=\"markdown markdown-main-panel tutor-markdown-rendering stronger enable-updated-hr-color\" dir=\"ltr\" aria-live=\"polite\" aria-busy=\"false\">\n<p id=\"p-rc_61fe2c256ee72098-110\" data-path-to-node=\"3\"><span data-path-to-node=\"3,0\">As we enter the <b data-path-to-node=\"3,0\" data-index-in-node=\"16\">2026 irrigation season<\/b>, the Klamath Project faces a significant hydrologic challenge. <\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"3,2\"><span class=\"citation-282\">With the watershed&#8217;s snowpack at under <\/span><b data-path-to-node=\"3,2\" data-index-in-node=\"38\"><span class=\"citation-282\">4% of the median<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-282\"> as of March 31, we are navigating a severe &#8220;snow drought&#8221;<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"3,4\">. <\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"3,6\"><span class=\"citation-281\">This has resulted in inflows to Upper Klamath Lake falling far below normal levels<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"3,8\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_61fe2c256ee72098-111\" data-path-to-node=\"4\"><span data-path-to-node=\"4,1\"><span class=\"citation-280\">Analysis indicates that water available to Klamath Project irrigators will be <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4,1\" data-index-in-node=\"78\"><span class=\"citation-280\">less than full delivery or demand<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,3\">. <\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,5\"><span class=\"citation-279\">To manage this shortage and protect the survival of generational family operations, the <\/span><b data-path-to-node=\"4,5\" data-index-in-node=\"88\"><span class=\"citation-279\">Klamath Project Drought Response Agency (DRA)<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-279\"> is implementing a Land Idling Program for the 2026 water year<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,7\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"6\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Important Eligibility Notice for K.I.D., KBID, Warren Act, Group E Patrons<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\"><b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">If you apply water to your land within the Klamath Irrigation District (K.I.D.) service area during the 2026 season\u2014<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">whether using surface water or groundwater<\/span>\u2014you will be ineligible for the 2026 Land Idling Program.<\/b> K.I.D. ditchriders have been instructed to remind patrons of this requirement during the first call for water of the season.<\/p>\n<hr data-path-to-node=\"8\" \/>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"9\">2026 Land Idling Program Details<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">The DRA Board is finalizing the 2026 program to support our farming community through these difficult conditions.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"11\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Program Launch:<\/b> The 2026 program is <b data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"36\">scheduled to open on April 15, 2026<\/b>. Irrigators cannot sign up until this date.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Scale:<\/b> The DRA has secured funding to enroll up to <b data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"51\">50,000 acres<\/b> in the idling program this year.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Estimated Compensation:<\/b> Payments are expected to be between <b data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"60\">$300 and $350 per acre<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"p-rc_61fe2c256ee72098-112\" data-path-to-node=\"11,3,1\"><span data-path-to-node=\"11,3,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,3,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\"><span class=\"citation-278\">Key Objective:<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-278\"> To ensure water remains available for critical crops in September and October by reducing early-season demand<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"11,3,1,2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr data-path-to-node=\"12\" \/>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"13\">Official Policy and Contact Information<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\">Please refer to the <b data-path-to-node=\"14\" data-index-in-node=\"20\">KPDRA 2026 No Irrigation Assistance Program Policy<\/b> for complete program and eligibility details.
