Secretary Burgum withdraws Secretary Haaland’s withdrawal of Secretary Bernhardt’s memorandums on relooking the federal policies related to the Klamath Reclamation Project.
Dear Secretary Burgum,
On behalf of the hardworking families, our farmers and ranchers, our communities, and the American people, we extend our sincere gratitude to you and your staff for your decisive action in rescinding Secretary Haaland’s 2021 political directive, which undermined our trust in our federal government. Your leadership in restoring a legally sound and balanced approach to water management reinforces critical priorities for food security, national security, and America’s agricultural strength.
Food Security for America starts with water security, and ensuring our farmers and ranchers have the necessary resources to feed our nation is paramount. By prioritizing policies that protect water access for agricultural production, your office is safeguarding the ability of American farmers to provide for our people while reducing reliance on foreign imports. Water security is food security, and food security is national security – an Army runs on its stomach. Your actions directly support a self-sufficient, prosperous, and resilient America.
Furthermore, your focus on restoring integrity to water management policies aligns with the Trump 47 agenda—securing America’s natural resources, strengthening our agricultural backbone, and putting the needs of American workers, farmers, and families first. By revisiting the legal frameworks surrounding water access, your office is ensuring that American family farmers—not bureaucratic overreach—determine the future of food production in this country.
We deeply appreciate the dedication of your staff in conducting this legal review and working toward a framework that supports “Food for America”—a vision where American-grown products nourish our people, fuel our economy, and keep our nation strong. We look forward to continuing collaboration with your office to secure policies that uphold these priorities for generations to come.
Thank you again for you and your team’s leadership and unwavering commitment to securing America’s food, water, and national strength. You are a Great American!!!!
Sincerely,
Gene R. Souza, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired),
